A major Miocene deepwater mud canopy system: The North Sabah–Pagasa Wedge, northwestern Borneo

چکیده

Abstract Three-dimensional seismic reflection data, well and analogues from areas with extensive shale tectonics indicate that the enigmatic deepwater “shale nappe or thrust sheet” region of northern offshore Sabah, Malaysia, now referred to as North Sabah–Pagasa Wedge (NSPW), is actually a major mobile activity characterized by mini-basins mud pipes, chambers, volcanoes. A short burst volcano produced submarine canopy complex composed ~50 centers (each probably multiple volcanoes) cover individual between 4 80 km2. The total area dense development ~1900 During middle Miocene, post-collisional NSPW was predominantly overpressured shales were loaded much km thickness clastics in series mini-basins. Following mini-basin development, there very important phase volcanism, which built canopies (coalesced flows) vent complexes. affected deposition overlying interfingering deposits, including late early Miocene turbidite sandstones, are reservoirs some fields (e.g., Rotan field). presence volcanoes indicates large volumes gas had be generated within drive volcanism. Sabah example only second system described literature largest most complex.

Depreissia decipiens, an enigmatic canopy spider from Borneo revisited (Araneae, Salticidae), with remarks on the distribution and diversity of canopy spiders in Sabah, Borneo

Depreissia is a little known genus comprising two hymenopteran-mimicking species, one found in Central Africa and one in the north of Borneo. The male of Depreissia decipiens is redescribed, the female is described for the first time. The carapace is elongated, dorsally flattened and rhombus-shaped, the rear of the thorax laterally depressed and transformed, with a pair of deep pits; the pedice...

Advanced Deepwater Monitoring System

This study investigates new methods to improve deepwater monitoring and addresses installation of advanced sensors on ”already deployed” risers, flowlines, trees, and other deepwater devices. A major shortcoming of post installed monitoring systems in subsea is poor coupling between the sensor and structure. This study provided methods to overcome this problem. Both field testing in subsea envi...

A New Flightless Gallinule (Aves: Rallidae: Gallinula) from the Oligo-Miocene of Riversleigh, Northwestern Queensland, Australia

Flightlessness in birds occurs in a taxonomically diverse array of families, but is best exemplified in the rails (Rallidae). Most flightless species of rails live on islands, where the absence of native mammalian predators may make flight superfluous. Fossil rails from Oligo-Miocene sites at Riversleigh, northwestern Queensland, Australia, are considered to represent a single species of gallin...
